Bees!

Yesterday night was movie night at my aunt’s house; every other Sunday we rent a movie and enjoy it as a family. Last night the movie was chosen by my uncle’s niece. She pick The Secret Life of Bees, and she was jokingly telling us of how hard it was for her to pick a movie. As I listened to this I thought she meant that there where to many good ones to choose from, but I was wrong on my assumption. Moments later she clarified that the hard part was choosing a movie that I had not seen before; I do tend to see many movies >.<. I smiled and I told her I had not seen that one, though I had wanted to when it came to theaters, she was rather pleased that she hit the mark with her pick.

When I first saw the commercials for the movie, the first thing that called my attention was the scenery and then the cast of actors. At no point did the plot of the movie play a part in my desire to see it. To tell the truth I had no idea what it was about.

It turns out that the movie is a heart warming story of a teen-aged girl out to find freedom and the truth behind her mothers death. It also talks about the discrimination against African-American people and how this group of successful African-American women take the young girl into their care and help her find herself. It is sort of a coming of age story that also deals with the social turmoil of the early sixties. I recommend it completely, if you want to see a good movie, watch this one. I have provided a link to the trailer for anyone that is interested in finding out more. By the way the movie is based on a novel and I am most definitely going to read it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUPsuuBiNNY&feature=related

I read the book and loved it. I didn’t know that there was a movie out already, but it sounds good and I want to see it.
